Two arrested for marijuana cultivation

Two men have been charged in connection with cultivating marijuana, according to deputies with the Lewis County Sheriff's Department.

Deputy Johnny Bivens said that deputies made a traffic stop at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday on the AA Highway just east of the Grayson Spur after receiving information that someone was seen loading marijuana plants in the trunk of a vehicle.

Bivens said officers recovered 20 marijuana plants in the trunk of the suspect vehicle and arrested Billy R. Clark, 29, of Spy Run.

Bivens said that during the incident officers obtained information that allowed them to obtain a search warrant for Clark's resident and property. He said the warrant was executed about 11:30 p.m. and resulted in the additional recovery of 18 marijuana plants, which were growing behind Clark's residence. The plants, he said, ranged in height from 12 inches to 54 inches.

Bivens said Clark was charged with cultivation of five or more marijuana plants, a class D felony, and lodged in the Lewis County Detention Center.

Deputy Dwayne Stone said that at about 12:30 a.m. on Thursday, officers investigated a complaint of marijuana plants being grown near a residence on Ky. Rt. 1306 at Garrison.

Stone said officers went to the home of Steven Clark Jr., 20, of Garrison, and found 15 marijuana plants located in one plot behind Clark's mobile home.

Clark was arrested on charges of cultivation of five or more marijuana plants and lodged in the Lewis County Detention Center.

Anyone with information concerning cultivation of marijuana in Lewis County may call the Lewis County Sheriff's Department at 606-796-2912. Callers may remain anonymous.
