Charles W. Parsons
Charles W. Parsons Jr., 58, of Emerson, passed away unexpected at 5:08 a.m. Wednesday, January 4, 2012, at his home.
Born at Mansfield, Ohio, on September 26, 1953, to the late Charles W. parsons Sr. and Veryl Elizabeth Crabtree Smith, he was a welder for Colby Steel Company in Bucyrus, Ohio and was a US Navy veteran.
Survivors include his wife of 35 years, Kay Bailey Parsons, whom he married in Bucyrus; two sons, Joy (Roya) Parsons of Galion, Ohio, and Charles Richard (Christy) Parsons of Magnolia; one brother, Jerry Sanders of Emerson; and seven grandchildren, Mary Kay Todd, Katelyn Shockley, Allison Todd, Tyler Parsons, Ryan Parsons, Dallas Jewell and Destiny Jewell.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Karen Todd; and a brother, Brian Parsons.
Private services were held at the convenience of the family.
Gaydos Funeral Home in Vanceburg was in charge of arrangements.
Roy
Delbert Polley, 76, passed away Monday, January 16, 2012, at 8:48 a.m., with
his family by his side at Central Baptist Hospital in Lexington, following an
extended illness.
He
was born May 14, 1935, at Vanceburg, a son of Sudie Mae Bennett Polley of
Tollesboro and the late Wilford Roy Polley. He was a farmer and worked for US
Shoe in Vanceburg. He was of the Christian faith.
In
addition to his mother, survivors include eight daughters, Kathy (Gary)
Jordan, Sheila (Jerry) Cooper, and Donna Fite, all of Vanceburg, Lodena
McGlone of Carter City, Melissa (James) McClurg of Shelbyville, Delta (Fred)
Applegate of Flemingsburg, Lisa (Stan) Mitic of Brooksville, and Sandra
(Billy) Bell of Delaware, Ohio; one son, Ray (Amanda) Polley of Vanceburg; one
brother, Joe Polley of Tollesboro; 23 grandchildren; and 21
great-grandchildren.
He
was preceded in death by his wife, Beatrice Flinders Polley; one daughter,
Tammy Polley; and three brothers, Hobert Polley, Emery Polley, and Donnie
Polley.
Services
were at 1:00 p.m., Thursday, January 19, 2012, at Gaydos Funeral Home in
Vanceburg with Pastor Arthur Whiteman officiating. Burial was in Muses Chapel
Cemetery at Quicks Run.
Dorothy Irene Rowley Potter
Dorothy
Irene Rowley Potter, 88, of Garrison, went to be with her Lord, Thursday,
January 26, 2012, at her residence.
She
was born in Scioto County, Ohio, on September 13, 1923, a daughter of the late
Walter Rowley and Mary Lewis Rowley.
She
was a homemaker, housewife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother,
great-great-grandmother and sister.
Survivors
include two daughters, Loretta Potter of Garrison and Alberta Orlandi of Dry
Ridge; four sons, Norman (Jane) Potter of Quincy, William Isaac (Debbie) Potter
Jr. of Union, Tom (Billie) Potter of Garrison, and Joe (Marla) Potter of
Vanceburg; 15 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; and seven
great-great-grandchildren.
She
was preceded in death by her husband, William Isaac Potter, October 3, 1997; one
son, Harold Dean Potter; and two sisters, Eva Ward and Nellie Adkins.
Services
were at 11:00 a.m., Monday, January 30, 2012, at Roberson Funeral Home in South
Shore with Rev. Norman Potter officiating. Burial was in Collier Memorial
Gardens in South Portsmouth.
Mitchell Dale Riley
Mitchell
Dale Riley, 46, of Bucyrus, Ohio, passed away Sunday, January 22, 2012, in
Riverside Methodist Hospital, Columbus, Ohio. Mitchell was born August 31,
1965, in Vanceburg, to the late Carl Vincent and Ida Marie (Knell) Riley. He
was married August 22, 2003, to Christina Sue (Crawford) Riley who survives.
Mitchell
was a roofer and last worked for Home Sheet Metal.
In
addition to his wife, survivors include three children, Adam Riley, Abbie
Riley, and Ryan Riley; one step-son, Timothy Crawford; two grandchildren,
Joshua and Sunnie Radebaugh; eight siblings Ruth (Billy) Gillispie of
Winchester, Ohio, Barb (Johnny) Goodwin of Tollesboro, twin brother, Martin of
Batavia, Carl Riley Jr. of Portsmouth, Ohio, Doug (Janet) of Batavia, David of
Tollesboro, Danny (Jeanne) of Portsmouth; Johnny of Portsmouth; many nieces
and nephews, aunts and uncles, as well as former wife and friend Kathie Joann
Riley, and special friends, Greg Zornes, Mandy and Steve Bloom, Barb Sharp,
and mother and father in law, Robert and Faye Cox.
He
was preceded in death by one brother, Joseph Vincent Riley.
The Munz-Pirnstill Funeral Home in Bucyrus, Ohio,
assisted the
family with arrangements.
Walt Tackett
Walt
Tackett, 56, of Vance Creek in Quincy, passed away Sunday morning, January 22,
2012, at his residence.
He
was born February 5, 1955, in Detroit, Michigan, a son of the late Clarence and
Vada Cole Tackett.
Walt
was of the Christian faith and was a retired carpenter. He enjoyed hunting,
fishing, spending time outdoors, watching the Kentucky Wildcats, and spending
time with his family, especially his grandchildren.
Survivors
include his wife of 36 years, Vicki Vance Tackett; one daughter, April (Danny)
Stidam of Quincy; two sons, Bryan (Rebecca) Tackett of Quincy and Jason
(Cassandra) Tackett of Garrison; eight grandchildren; one sister, Debbie (Tom)
Sullivan of Quincy; and two brothers, Ted (Sue) Tackett and Fitzgerald (Melissa)
Tackett, both of Quincy. He also leaves many other family members and friends
who will sadly mourn his passing.
He
was preceded in death by one sister, Tina Durham; and one brother, Parnell
Tackett.
A
graveside service was at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, January 25, 2012, at the Maddy
Lewis Cemetery on Tannery Hill in Lewis County, Kentucky, with Bro. Gary Proehl
officiating.

Family Funeral Chapel in Garrison was in charge of all arrangements.
Wanda Thurman
Wanda
Carolyn "Evalena" Thurman, 70, of Garrison, passed away Thursday,
January 19, 2012, at 5:50 p.m., at her residence.
Born
May 13, 1941, at Hyden, she was a daughter of Dolphie Morgan Farler of Hyden and
the late Bennie Farler. She was a housewife and of the Christian faith.
In
addition to her mother, survivors include two daughters, Carolyn Sanders and
April (Hank) McCleese, both of Garrison; three sons, Jeff (Sharon) Thurman,
Brian (Stacy) Thurman and Kevin (Christine) Thurman, all of Garrison; six
sisters, Barbara (Tom) Smith of Hyden, Lula Mae (Ted) Hensley of Metamora,
Indiana, Betty (Brown) Morgan of Connersville, Indiana, Bonnie Young of
Rushville, Indiana, Edna (Melvin) Carver of Garrison, and Nancy (Calin) Morgan
of Vanceburg; two brothers, Roy (Barbara) Farler of Hyden and Jim (Donna) Farler
of Connersville, Indiana; and 10 grandchildren.
She
was preceded in death by her husband of 48 years, Easter Wayne Thurman, who died
March 31, 2011; a brother, Jerry Farler; a grandson, Aaron Mathew Thurman; and a
son-in-law, Jeremy Scott "Boggie" Sanders.
Graveside services were at 2:00 p.m., Sunday, January 22, 2012, at Skidmore Cemetery at Garrison with Rev. Wilma Erwin officiating.
Arrangements
were under the direction of Dickerson Funeral Home in Vanceburg.
