Peggy Lee Shumate, 75, of Tollesboro, entered Heaven surrounded by loved ones on Tuesday, December 21, 2021.
She was born at Maysville on November 2, 1946, one of nine children of William Thomas Miller and Alice Lowe Miller.
Known best as Nanny by the many who loved her, she was a lifelong homemaker. She enjoyed spending time with her family, attending church, and appreciating the beautiful things in life.
She is survived by six siblings, William Thomas Miller Jr. of Maysville, Floyd Miller of Germantown, Lloyd Miller of Sandhill, Bonnie Lou Parker (Rick) of Maysville, Steve Allen Miller (Sandra) of Lumberton, Texas, and Nancy Jean Slack of Cynthiana; four children, Martha McCann (Jackie) of Tollesboro, George “Bud” Shumate Jr. (Tyla Osborne) of Maysville, Lisa Applegate (Gene) of Tollesboro, and Carol Ginn (David) of Tollesboro; three grandchildren, Heather Waldron (Joey) of Tollesboro, Cody Henson (Amber) of Sandhill, and David “Boog” Ginn (Sarah) of Tollesboro; and six great-grandchildren, Layne Henson, Raelyn Henson, Jakob Castle, Elijah Martini, Brennan Waldron, Ezra Waldron, and Waylon Ginn. She also leaves behind countless “Nanny’s babies” who will miss her greatly.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Sally Ann Mitchell and Mary Alice Browning.
She taught us how to be kinder, to love unconditionally, and to appreciate each day we are gifted. “Let all that you do, be done in love.” – Corinthians 16:14.
The family would like to extend special thanks to Dr. Audrey Spencer, her physician for many years; her hospice caregivers, Harley Wenz and Amanda Lambert; and to all who have extended sympathy during this time.
Services will be at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, December 28, 2021, at Tollesboro Funeral Home and Cremation Services with Bro. Darin Hamilton officiating. Burial will follow in Tollesboro Cemetery.
Friends may visit from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Monday, December 27, 2021, at Tollesboro Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 11918 KY 57 at Tollesboro.
Pallbearers will be Cody Henson, David “Boog” Ginn, Derrick Spence, Derick Ruark, Joey Waldron and Jordan Doyle. Honorary pallbearers will be her great-grandchildren.
