Orville Wayne Carver departed this life to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Saturday, June 11, 2022, at Maysville Nursing and Rehabilitation.
Orville was born March 11, 1940, in Lewis County, a son of the late Orville Hubert and Erma Elizabeth Carver. He was the eldest son in the family of 10 children, and after his eighth-grade year, he left school to help his family work on the farm and provide for his younger siblings. It was at the one room schoolhouse where his brothers and sisters attended, that he met the love of his life, Vina Hackworth. He often said that she was the most beautiful thing he had ever seen. They were married on March 14, 1958.
Orville, or “Jun” as family and friends called him, worked several jobs to provide for his family, including driving a “pop” truck, working at Ryan’s Farm Supply, Wald Manufacturing, and Browning Manufacturing Company. He was known as a dedicated and tireless worker at everything he did, but the work he enjoyed most was in his own garden and yard. He had a green thumb and every year he had beautiful flowers in his yard, and produce from the garden that Vina would freeze or can for the winter.
Orville was a Kentucky Colonel. He had many other hobbies he enjoyed, such as working jigsaw puzzles, doing word searches, reading books, watching the Reds, and watching Jeopardy!. He enjoyed when he or anyone watching with him would get a correct answer. He would say, “You should be on Jeopardy!”
Orville loved his family and was a wonderful husband, father, and grandfather. He loved spending time with them and especially loved going to any event that involved his grandchildren, from playing a sport to piano recitals, to singing in plays or church, and finally watching his two granddaughters coach their own sports teams. He was one proud grandfather and loved to tell his friends what his kids were up to. There was not a day that he did not ask “How are the kids?” even when he was not feeling well himself.
Orville accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior and was baptized at Plumville Church of Christ where he and Vina were members. He had many friends there, and he attended the Men’s Fellowship meetings with his friends until his health prevented him from attending.
Orville was truly heartbroken when Vina passed away on October 31, 2021, and his heart’s true desire since that time was to be with her. He would say, “I don’t know why I just can’t go with her now.”
Orville was also preceded in death by his beloved son, Keith, in 2008. He loved and missed him so much.
In addition to Vina and Keith, he was preceded in death by his parents; his sisters, Phyllis Carver Cropper and Minnie Carver Presley; and his brother Robert Carver.
Orville is survived by his son, Kevin (Sandy) Carver; daughter-in-law, Suzy Carver; four grandchildren, Kyle (Sarah) Carver, Kacey Carver, Jeris Carver, and Kortney (Caleb) Mills; five great-grandchildren, Luke Carver, Macie Carver, Cole Carver, Case Carver, and Lincoln Mills; his brothers, Vanis Carver, Charles Carver, Maurice Carver, Dean Carver, James Carver, and Kenneth Carver; and many nieces and nephews.
Services will be at Noon Friday, June 17, 2022, at Tollesboro Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 11918 KY 57 at Tollesboro, with Pastor Caleb Mills officiating. Burial will follow in Hillcrest Garden of Memories in Mason County.
Friends may visit after 10:00 a.m. Friday, June 17, 2022, at the funeral home.
Those serving as pallbearers will be Eldon Mason, Mike Huff, Kyle Carver, Caleb Mills, Rodney Riddle, and Allen Riddle.
