Thelma Means

There are a few people put on this earth to bless us and keep us safe and to love us unconditionally.

Thelma Lourena Polley Means left her earthly body on October 8th, 2022, to join the angels and her loving husband of 33 years, Melvin Allen “Jack” Means, who we know was waiting with open arms.

Thelma was born on Quicks Run in Lewis County on October 26, 1923, a daughter of the late Louis and Parma Stone Polley. She was a member of Muses Chapel Church.

Thelma worked 25 years for US Shoe. During this time, she took care of three children, Connie Means Fitch (Larry) of Portsmouth, Ohio, Brenda Means Todd (Woodie) of Flemingsburg, and Melba Means of Pataskala, Ohio. She took care of her elderly mother until her passing. She raised a beautiful garden and canned all the food. She baked cakes for family and the community. Her door was always open to family and friends and her table was always ready to serve her amazing cooking. She quilted beautiful quilts for family and loved doing so until the beginning of her decline.

Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers, Cecil, Lawrence, Clayon, Woodrow, Ernest, and Hershel Polley; her sisters, Erma Polley Dunigan, and Audrey Polley Brown Baker; and a great-grandson, Ethan Boggs.

In addition to her daughters, she is survived by her beautiful grandchildren, Brent Hobbs, Sheldon Hobbs, Stephanie Hobbs, Jason Hobbs (Stacy), Stephanie Hobbs, Taylor Fitch, Gretta Roe (Ernie Bryant), Shelley Roe (JD Morgan), and Vinessa Hitch (Brian); great-grandchildren, Chris Jordan, Heather Hobbs, Beau Hobbs, Elizabeth Hobbs, Laikin Hobbs, Nicolas Hobbs, Maci Hobbs, Jesse Morgan (Maggie), and Xachary and Isabella Hitch; and great-great-grandchildren, Atley and Tate Morgan. She also has many nieces, nephews, and cousins who love her dearly.

She will be missed by so many family members, friends and her caregivers.

Her services will be at Dickerson Funeral Home, 110 West Second Street in Vanceburg, at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, October 12, 2022. Visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. until the time of service. Burial will be in Lewis County Memory Gardens beside her loving husband.

Pallbearers will be Brent Hobbs, Sheldon Hobbs, Taylor Fitch, Ernie Bryant, JD Morgan, and Brian Hitch.

Alternate pallbearers are Heather, Beau, Nicholas Hobbs, and Xachary Hitch.
