Frank M. Bryson Jr., 87, of Russell, went to be with our Lord on Monday, November 27, 2023, at King’s Daughters Medical Center in Ashland.
He was born at Portsmouth, Ohio, September 23, 1936, a son of the late Frank Bryson Sr. and Norma McDowell Bryson.
Frank was of the Christian faith and a Servant of the Lord, having ministered at multiple churches in Kentucky and North Carolina. He had 10 years service in the Army National Guard, retired from teaching high school Science from the Lewis County School District and Dare County, North Carolina, and was an adjunct college math professor at both Shawnee State University and Ohio University Southern. He earned his Masters Degree in mathematics at Louisiana State University, after earning his BS in physics and chemistry at Morehead State College. Frank was a Free Mason, Order of Eastern Star, and a Shriner.
Left behind to cherish his memory are his wife, Joy Lee Evans Bryson, whom he married June 14, 1959; three daughters, Melisa (L. Allan) Thompson of Russell, Laura (Don) Allred of Burlington, North Carolina, and Anita Jo Bryson of Russell; one son, Frank (Suzanne) Bryson III of Arden, North Carolina; one sister Julia Ann (Luke) Bentley of Garrison; eight grandchildren, Nathan (Kristin) Rice, Samantha (Taylor) Ashby, LCDR Ryan (LCDR Williams, USN) Thompson, MC, USN, Alyssa (Brett) Cooksey, Jessica (Cody) Walker, Joshua Bryson, Forrest Bryson, and Foster Bryson; and three great-grandchildren, Kate E. Ashby, June E. Ashby, and Jaxon C. Walker. Many additional family members and friends also survive who will sadly miss him.
Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by one sister, Patrica Belle Lamb.
At Frank’s request, there will be a memorial service at a later date. Morton-Hunt Family Funeral Home in South Shore is caring for arrangements.
