Marion F. ”Pete” McClurg, 90, of Garrison, passed away Saturday, March 30, 2024 at Southern Ohio Medical Center Hospice in Portsmouth, Ohio.
He was born at Concord on February 26, 1934, a son of the late Harry and Annabelle Ruark McClurg.
Pete, as he was known by family and friends, worked as a chief engineer with Midland Enterprises (Ohio River Company) for 41 years. He served in the United States Navy at the US Naval Submarine Base at Pearl Harbor, Hawaii. He loved buying and selling cars and motorcycles, going to yard sales, and was always up to go on a trip or eat out. Pete was a member of Jehovah’s Witnesses in Portsmouth, Ohio.
Left to cherish Marion’s memories are his wife of 11 years, Mary Lou Blevins McClurg; three daughters, Patsy Eccard of Garrison, Pam (Ed) Prichard of Barboursville, West Virginia, and Elizabeth Barrantes of San Angelo, Texas; three sons, Mike (Shirley) Howard of Lexington, David (Brenda) Howard of Vanceburg, and Marion “Pete” (Nina) McClurg Jr. of Highland Heights; a sister, Evelyn Moore of Batavia, Ohio; 15 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Melvina Johnson McClurg; two brothers, Donnie McClurg and Duard McClurg; and a grandson, Kevin Lee Lewis.
Services will be at Noon Wednesday, April 3, 2024, at Gaydos Funeral Home, 159 Second Street in Vanceburg, with Bro. Steve Perkins officiating. Burial will follow in Vergne Cemetery at Vanceburg.
Military graveside rites will be accorded by Monte Lewis Stamm VFW Post 5438.
Visitation will be from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Tuesday, April 2, 2024, and after 10:00 a.m. Wednesday at Gaydos Funeral Hom.
Pallbearers will be Micah McClurg, Jeremiah Johnson, Manuel Aaron Quinones, Pete McClurg Jr., Darren Underwood, and Christopher Savage.
