Edith Rittenhour

Edith Marie Rittenhour, 83, of Oceola, Ohio, passed away Saturday August 3, 2024, at Wyandot Nursing and Rehabilitation in Upper Sandusky, Ohio.  

Edith was born May 17, 1941, in Vanceburg, a daughter of the late Mack and Myrtle (Howard) Butler. She was married September 8, 1956, to Rodney R. Rittenhour who preceded her in death on February 9, 2020.  

Edith lived most of her life in Oceola and was a member of Good Hope Lutheran Church. She had many hobbies that included cooking and baking, gardening and canning, taking care of houseplants, going mushroom and squirrel hunting, attending flea markets and thrift stores, collecting frogs, quilting, making sock monkeys for every grand and great-grandchild, and playing Scrabble and crossword puzzles.  

Edith especially enjoyed bird watching and hummingbirds, eating sweets, rescuing animals, and loved spending time with her family, close friends, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Edith worked a short time in a nursing home, special packaging, and part-time for ODOT. She was primarily a homemaker and mother to her five children.

Survivors include her children, William of Nevada, Ohio; Jan (Sondra) of Galion, Ohio; Angel Gillen of Nevada, Ohio; Clayton (Amy Jarvis) of Bucyrus, Ohio; and Rhea Farmer of Bucyrus, Ohio; her grandchildren, Michael of Bucyrus, Ohio, Emma (David) Evans of Galion, Ohio, Chet of Upper Sandusky, Ohio, and Eugene of Upper Sandusky, Ohio, Merry (Richard) Daughtry of Wapakoneta, Ohio, Logan and Keegan Gillen of Nevada, Ohio, Dalton of Bucyrus, Ohio, and Talon (Emily) of Cardington, Ohio; her great-grandchildren, Tyler, Callen, Aubrey, Dylan, Xander, Gabriel, Gunner, Eden, Avery, Rylee, Devyn, Sylas, Stella, Zoe, Madison, Lennox, Levi, Conner, Maya, and Landon; and brother Charles (Angie) Butler of Indiana.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a brother, Raymond Butler; five sisters, Lottie Dyer, Kathleen Faulkner, Julie Logan, Christine Dyer, and Helen Richmond; and her best friend, Grace Lewis Lawhun.

Services will be at 1:00 p.m. Thursday, August 8, 2024, at Munz-Pirnstill Funeral Home in Bucyrus, Ohio, with Chaplain Joy Cochran officiating. Burial will follow in Oceola Cemetery. 

The family will receive friends at Munz-Pirnstill Funeral Home Thursday after 11:00 a.m.
