Raymond Elwood Butler, 98, of Laurel, passed away Tuesday, October 8, 2024, at his home.
He was born June 23, 1926, in Lewis County, a son of the late Moses and Elizabeth Stone Butler.
Raymond proudly served his country in the United States Army during WW II. He enjoyed attending church, listening to music, singing, going to family reunions, and spending time at his cabin on Mills Branch with his family.
Survivors include two daughters, Rita Stone of Laurel and Christy Click of Galion, Ohio; two sons, George Butler and Duane (Pamela) Butler of Laurel; one stepdaughter, Wilma Sue (Glen) of Minford, Ohio; one stepson, Gary Richmond of Sonora; a sister, Opal Howe of Indiana; 12 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; 12 great-great-grandchildren, and one on the way; a daughter-in-law Earlene Gilliam Butler of Emerson; and a son-in-law, Roger Hardeman of Laurel. Many other family members and friends also survive who will sadly miss him.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife of 47 years, Stella Edington Butler; his second wife of 30 years, Lula Richmond Butler; three children, Donnie Butler, Nancy Mary Lee Davis, and Carolyn Hardeman; eight sisters, Ardith Gilliam, Rhoda McSweeney, Martha Day, Elnora Richmond, Ethel Nolen, Dorthy Smith, Katie Pollitt, and Irene Butler; two half-sisters, Bertha Butler and Lillie Butler; five brothers, Davy Butler, Mason Butler, Eugene Butler, Russell Butler, and Ralph Butler; a half-brother, Noah Butler; one granddaughter, Ashley Butler Cooper; and a son-in-law, Mike Stone.
Services will be at 1:00 p.m. Sunday, October 13, 2024, at 1068 Independence Church of Christ with Bro. Jason Caudill and Bro. Ronnie Enix officiating. Burial will follow in Smith-Gilliam Cemetery on Laurel.
Friends may visit from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Saturday, October 12, 2024, at Globe Family Funeral Chapel at Camp Dix and after Noon Sunday, October 13, 2024, at 1068 Independence Church of Christ, KY 1068 at Laurel.
Pallbearers will be Gerald Butler, Nathan Click, Ethan Click, Evan Click, Eli Bloomfield, and Cayden Bloomfield.
