Glenn Davis Cole, 89, of Tollesboro, passed away Saturday, November 16, 2024, at his home.
Born December 3, 1934, in Robertson County, he was a son of the late Ernest Clayton Cole and Anna Belle Donaldson Cole.
Glenn was a dedicated husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and community servant. He married the love of his life, Evelyn Tully Cole, on January 9, 1955. Together, they shared 65 years of marriage and a deep partnership that was an inspiration to all who knew them.
Glenn proudly served his country in the United States Army, having been drafted in December 1955. He received an honorable discharge on April 17, 1962, after serving with distinction. Glenn’s commitment to service continued throughout his life as he devoted much of his time to his community. He was recognized by the Tollesboro Lions Club for his service, being awarded the Melvin Jones Fellow award, Outstanding Citizen award, and a special recognition for Lifetime Service to the Tollesboro Lions Club.
For 32 years, Glenn worked at Browning Manufacturing/Emerson Electric. In addition, Glenn operated Cole’s Plumbing and Electric and was always “on-call” when there was a need. He was a licensed master electrician until the age of 89, a testament to his lifelong commitment to his trade and his community. Glenn was known for his reliability, his willingness to help others, and his commitment to excellence no matter what the task.
Glenn was a devoted member of Tollesboro United Methodist Church for over 50 years. He maintained and drove the church bus, supported the New Life Singers, and was always available to fix anything needing repair. His faith was a cornerstone of his life, and he was always willing to lend a helping hand to his church family.
Survivors include two children, Glenda (Mike) Stewart of Powder Springs, Georgia, and Michael (Lori) Cole of Statesville, North Carolina; six grandchildren, Rachael, Rebekah, Hannah, and Zachariah (Olivia) Stewart of Georgia, Cameron Cole of Kentucky, and Courtney (Tyler) Bruce of North Carolina; and four great-grandchildren, Bentley, Kinsley, Weston, and Zoey Bruce, of North Carolina. Numerous friends also survive who will miss him dearly.
In addition to his parents, Glenn was preceded in death by his wife, Evelyn Tully Cole; a son, Brian Keith Cole; a sister, Lavaughn Jean Cole Rumforda; and a brother, Ernest Clayton Cole Jr.
The family will receive friends for visitation after 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, November 20, 2024, at Tollesboro Funeral Home and Cremation Services.
A service to honor Glenn’s life will be at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, November 20, 2024, at Tollesboro Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 11918 KY 57 at Tollesboro with Bro. Mike Rice officiating.
Burial to follow in Hillcrest Garden of Memories.
Military graveside rites will be accorded by the Monte Lewis Stamm VFW Post 5438. Glenn’s grandsons, Cameron Cole, and Zach Stewart, and grandson-in-law, Tyler Bruce, will serve as pallbearers with Brad Schultz, Bob Applegate, and Dwight Malone serving as additional pallbearers.
Glenn’s life was marked by his unwavering love for his family, his work, his community, and his country. He will be deeply missed.
