Anna Applegate

Anna Gardner Applegate, 71, of Vanceburg, passed away Thursday, July 10, 2025, at Southern Ohio Medical Center Hospice in Portsmouth, Ohio. Her family was by her side.

She was born at Portsmouth, Ohio, on November 13, 1953, a daughter of the late Alan G. and Jane Gormely Roe. She was also raised by her stepmother, Norma Roe.

Anna was of the Christian faith and loved to read novels. Most of all, she loved her family.

Survivors include her husband of 28 years, Gene Applegate; a daughter, Michelle Roe (fiancé Ricky Monroe) of South Portsmouth; a brother, Jack Roe of Morehead; two grandchildren, Christopher Alan Caldwell II and Timothy Andrew (Bella) Caldwell; a great-grandson, Theodore Caldwell; sisters-in-law, Mary Alice Clark, Rosemary Applegate, and Pat Mensch; brothers-in-law, Darrell (Bud) Applegate and Donald Thoroughman; and a special sister-in law Nellie Bloomfield and her niece, Cindy (Steve) Butler. Several nieces and nephews also mourn her passing.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Patty Roe, and three brothers, John Roe, Alan Roe, and Paul Roe.

Services will be at 11:00 a.m. Monday at Gaydos Funeral Home, 159 Second Street in Vanceburg, with Bro. Tony Corns officiating. Burial will follow in Flinders Cemetery on Quicks Run.

Visitation will be after 9:00 a.m. Monday, July 14, 2025, at Gaydos Funeral Home.

Pallbearers will be Christopher Alan Caldwell II, Timothy Andrew Caldwell, Ricky Monroe, Jack Bond, and Billy Bond.
