Lorene Jordan

Lorene Jordan, 79, of Vanceburg, entered the gates of Heaven Friday, November 14, 2025, at SOMC Hospice  in Portsmouth, Ohio. She was surrounded by loved ones.

Lorene was born October 27, 1946, in Carter County, a daughter of the late Roy Wilburn and Rosie Margaret Parson Wilburn.

She was a member of Carter Christian Holiness Church in Carter City. During the winter months over the past 20 she also attended First Freewill Baptist Church in Tampa, Florida. She retired from Cowden’s Manufacturing in Olive Hill and spent her remaining years as a homemaker.

Lorene and her husband, Roy, hosted the Jordan Gospel Singing at their family home for 19 years. She worked tirelessly in the kitchen, making her well-known apple cakes and desserts. Many lives were touched during those nightly gatherings of music and the gospel message.

She enjoyed watching golf and Jeopardy!, and playing Phase 10 or dominoes. When able, she was known for her handsewn quilts, crafted with such skill that she received numerous prize ribbons and had one displayed at Greenbo State Park.

Survivors include her daughter, Margaret (Kenneth) Cooper of Vanceburg; two sons, William Alfred (Cindy Chinn) Jordan of South Point, Ohio, and Ithel Dwayne (Angie) Jordan of Vanceburg; seven grandchildren, Donna Jean Skidmore of Garrison; Kenneth Jesse Cooper of Vanceburg; Brittany Ann Barraza of Charleston, West Virginia; Shelby Chinn of Teays Valley, West Virginia; Skylar Chinn of Columbus, Ohio; Madison Elaine McNay of Norfolk, Virginia; and Isaac Douglas (Taylor) Jordan of Honolulu, Hawaii; five great-grandchildren, Nicole Leigh (Ashton Moore) Collins; Logan Michael Allen; Mason Alexander Farney; Zavier Andrew Barraza; and Londyn Isabella Ann Farney; and one great-great-grandchild, Colt Hagean Moore.

She also leaves behind her sisters, Loretta (Harold) McClurg of Carter City and Brenda Sue (Billy) Edwards of Williamstown; her brothers, Kenneth (Donna) Wilburn of Grayson, Randy (Effie) Wilburn of Carter City, and Glade (Mary) Wilburn of Carter City; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.

Lorene wanted to express special thanks to the men at Carter Church for helping her in and out of her vehicle, to several neighbors for assisting her in times of need, and to her part-time caregiver, Debbie Jordan.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, Roy Jordan, and a great-grandchild, Carson Wade Allen.

Services will be at 1:00 p.m. Thursday, November 20, 2025, at Dickerson Funeral Home in Vanceburg with Bro. Jerry Jordan and Bro. Bill Burnet officiating. Burial will follow in Jordan Cemetery on Trace Road.

Visitation will be after 11:30 a.m. Thursday at Dickerson Funeral Home.

Pallbearers will be Adam Cooper, Eugene Wilburn, Jeremy Williams, Norman Smith, Joseph Kiser, and Tim Jordan.

Dickerson Funeral Home is honored to serve the family of Lorene Jordan.
