Shirley Diana “Doodle” Applegate Cooper, 81, of Tollesboro, passed away Friday, December 12, 2025, at Maysville Nursing and Rehabilitation. Her loving family surrounded her.
Shirley was born in Lewis County on July 3, 1943, a daughter of the late Ora and Blanche Fite Applegate.
She was a member of Full Gospel Pentecostal Church in Manchester, Ohio, where she loved to attend. She enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. Shirley was a strong, independent woman whose strength came from Jesus.
Survivors include a daughter, Sheryl (Larry) Henry of Maysville; one sister, Jennifer Mason of Maysville; three brothers, Gary Applegate, Cary Applegate, and Van Applegate of Tollesboro; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Many other family members and friends will sadly miss her.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving husband of 59 years, George Junior Cooper; one daughter, Marilyn Thomas; three sisters, Lilly Beckett, Ruth Applegate, and Eva Joyce Flack; and two brothers, Bud Applegate and Roger Applegate.
Services will be at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, December 16, 2025, at Tollesboro Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 11918 KY 57 at Tollesboro, with Bro. Tony Corns officiating. Burial will follow in Mt. Tabor Cemetery.
