Cary Donald Applegate Sr., 79, of Vanceburg, passed away Friday, December 19, 2025, at his home.
He was born December 27, 1945, in Lewis County, a son of the late Ora and Blanche Fite Applegate.
Cary had worked with Randall Company and Copeland Company; he was a bus driver for the Lewis County School System and a farmer. He loved to hunt, fish, farm, and search for wild mushrooms. He also loved his cats. He will be greatly missed by family and friends.
Survivors include his loving wife of 60 years, Colleen Esham Applegate; one daughter, Carleen Applegate Lutz of Vanceburg; one son, Cary Applegate Jr. of Vanceburg; one sister, Jennifer Mason of Maysville; two brothers, Gary (Patricia) Applegate and Ban (Judy) Applegate of Tollesboro; three grandchildren, Alacia Purcell, Cecelia Lutz, and Cody Applegate; two great-grandchildren, Elias Purcell and Winston Purcell. Many other family members and friends will also sadly miss him.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four sisters and two brothers.
Services will be at 3:00 p.m. Tuesday, December 23, 2025, at Tollesboro Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 11918 KY 57 at Tollesboro, with Bro. David Hickerson officiating. Burial will be follow in Applegate Cemetery at Tollesboro.
Friends may visit after 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, December 23, 2025, at Tollesboro Funeral Home.
