Leslie Gene Applegate, 71, passed away Tuesday, March 17, 2026.
Gene was born at Vanceburg on May 6, 1954, a son of the late Adolphus and Cynthia Canell Applegate.
Gene was a master carpenter. He enjoyed watching old westerns and loved spending time with his family.
Left to cherish his memories are a stepdaughter, Michelle Roe; two sisters, Mary Alice Clark and Nellie Bloomfield; a brother, Darrell “Bud” Applegate; two step-grandsons, Christopher Caldwell II and Timothy (Bella) Caldwell; a step-great-grandson, Theodore Caldwell; two sisters-in-law; two brothers-in-law; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Anna Applegate, on July 10, 2025; a son, Shane Douglas Applegate; four sisters, Verna Bond, Margie Polley, Helen Ruth Gottfried, and Donna Thoroughman; and five brothers, Harold Applegate, Cliff Applegate, Fred Applegate, George Applegate, and Allan Ray Applegate.
Services will be at the family’s convenience.
