Amy Louise Adkins Lewis, 87, of Vanceburg, passed away following a long illness on Saturday, June 13, 2026, at King’s Daughters Medical Center in Ashland.
She was born October 23, 1938, in Load, Kentucky, a daughter of the late Joseph Newton Adkins and Edna Virginia Osborne Adkins.
She married her sweetheart, James Ogden Lewis, on August 6, 1957. She and her husband were members of Carter Christian Church, where they enjoyed their church family and fellowship. Louise was also a member of the First Families of Kentucky and the Daughters of the American Revolution historical societies. In her free time, she enjoyed reading, writing poetry, and playing games. Louise was especially devoted to her family.
Louise is survived by her husband; two daughters, Jamie Ellen Lewis (Charles) Burroughs of Nashville, Tennessee, and Jacqueline Anne Lewis (Charles Phillips) of Lexington, Kentucky; a son, Miles Steven (Carol) Lewis of Ashland, Kentucky; a granddaughter, Whitney Michelle (Shane) Blackburn; and a great-grandson, Adler Blackburn. She is also survived by her sisters, Esther Denny and Janet Ward of Ashland, Kentucky; brothers, Joseph (Lois) Adkins of Chillicothe, Ohio, Steve (Dorothy) Adkins of Grayson, Kentucky, and Morgan Adkins of Greenup, Kentucky; and her sister-in-law, Lyndon Adkins of Carter County, Kentucky. She also leaves behind many nieces, nephews, and extended family members.
In addition to her parents, Louise was preceded in death by her sister, Darlene McGlone; and two brothers, Glenn and Wade Adkins.
The family wishes to thank all those who provided excellent care, compassion, and friendship to Louise over the years. Louise will be remembered in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.
Services were at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 20, 2026, at Carter Christian Church in Carter City, Kentucky, with Bro. Terrell Webb officiating. Burial followed in Lewis Cemetery in Lewis County, Kentucky.
Mark Horsley, Brian Horsley, Greg Stambaugh, Glenn Adkins, Charles Phillips, and James Adkins served as pallbearers.
