Claire E. Esham, 60, of Vanceburg, passed away on Monday, July 20, 2026, at Southern Ohio Medical Center in Portsmouth, Ohio.
Claire earned bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Morehead State University in 1988. She worked for the Kentucky Department of Social Services for more than 20 years before retiring because of an extended illness.
Survivors include her mother, Lois Esham of Vanceburg; a son, Thomas Broughton of Vanceburg; and a brother, Todd Esham (Cindy) of Rochester, New York.
She was preceded in death by her father, Charles Thomas “Tom” Esham; maternal grandparents, Floyd and Geneva Lewis; paternal grandparents, Richard “Dick” T. and Gladys Esham; a very special aunt, Naomi Breeze; and her ex-husband, Carlos “Butch” Broughton.
Services will be at 1:00 p.m. Sunday, July 26, 2026, at Gaydos Funeral Home, 159 Second Street in Vanceburg, with Rev. Wilma Erwin officiating. Visitation will be after 11:00 a.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
Interment will be in Lewis County Memory Gardens at Black Oak.
