Health and Career Fair set for Thursday at Black Oak

Free health screenings, discounted laboratory testing, blood donations, employment opportunities, and workforce training information will be available

The Lewis County Health and Career Fair will be held Thursday, November 5, at the Black Oak Volunteer Fire Department, bringing together healthcare providers, employers, and workforce development organizations for health screenings, blood donations, employment opportunities, and educational resources.

The event, organized through the Lewis County Judge Executive’s Office in partnership with regional healthcare and workforce organizations, is free and open to the public.

The health fair will run from 8:00 to 11:00 a.m., with the career fair from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.

Kentucky Blood Center will also have its bloodmobile at the event from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., offering residents an opportunity to donate blood.

The bloodmobile will be stationed outside the Black Oak Volunteer Fire Department, located at 41 Industrial Park Road, Vanceburg.

Residents can schedule blood donation appointments online through the Kentucky Blood Center website at www.kybloodcenter.org. Those wishing to donate may select the November 5 Lewis County Health and Career Fair blood drive in Vanceburg when scheduling their appointments.

During the health fair, residents will have access to a variety of free wellness screenings and discounted laboratory testing services designed to help identify potential health concerns.

Comprehensive laboratory testing will be available for $30, payable by cash or check only. Testing will include cholesterol, blood sugar (glucose), thyroid function, liver and kidney function panels, and electrolyte and calcium screening.

Those planning to have laboratory blood testing must not eat or drink anything for 12 hours before the test. This fasting requirement applies to the laboratory blood testing, not to blood donations.

Several health screenings and educational services will be offered at no charge, including blood pressure checks, body mass index (BMI) measurements, height and weight assessments, and nutrition education.

Additional activities will include hands-only CPR instruction, demonstrations of technology that visualizes facial sun damage, and information about flu shots and vaccinations.

The career fair portion of the event will give job seekers an opportunity to meet directly with local and regional employers who are hiring.

Representatives will be available to discuss current job openings, employment requirements, and career opportunities across several industries.

Attendees may also participate in on-site job interviews and receive assistance preparing or updating their resumes through the Kentucky Career Center-TENCO.

Maysville Community and Technical College Workforce Solutions will provide information about education, specialized training, and programs designed to help individuals develop skills needed for employment or career advancement.

Representatives of Local 248 will also be involved and provide information about skilled labor and related employment opportunities.

Individuals attending the career fair are encouraged to dress professionally and bring several updated copies of their resumes to share with prospective employers.

The event is sponsored by the Lewis County Judge/Executive’s Office, Meadowview Regional Medical Center, Fleming County Hospital, PrimaryPlus, Kentucky Career Center-TENCO, Maysville Community and Technical College Workforce Solutions, and Local 248. Kentucky Blood Center will also participate by providing the bloodmobile.

“We want to make sure the people of Lewis County have access to the resources they need to live healthier lives and find good employment opportunities,” Judge/Executive George Sparks said. “By bringing healthcare providers, employers, and workforce training organizations together in one location, we’re making it easier for our residents to take advantage of these services. I appreciate all of our community partners who have worked together to make this event possible.”

Organizers say the combined event is intended to make important health services and employment resources more accessible to Lewis County residents by bringing them together in one convenient location.

The fair’s theme is “Building a Healthier, Stronger Community Together!”

Admission is free, though optional laboratory testing will cost $30. Blood donations are voluntary and available through Kentucky Blood Center during the event.

For additional information, including for employers interested in participating, contact the Lewis County Judge/Executive’s Office or Kentucky Career Center-TENCO.
