Ernest Wesley “Wes” Ferrell, 70, of Vanceburg, formerly of Garrison, passed away Wednesday, February 17, 2016, at Hospice of Hope Care Center at Kenton Pointe in Maysville with his family by his side.

Wes was born in Charleston, West Virginia, April 7, 1945, to the late Ernest Lloyd and Anna Louise Blankenship Ferrell.

He was a self-employed businessman. Wes built the AA Truckstop in Garrison and had worked as a pipefitter and served as a foreman for AK Steel in Ashland.

Wes operated the first gas station in Garrison and served as a Lewis County Deputy Sheriff under Sheriff Virgil Cole. He also worked as a prison guard for the Kentucky Department of Corrections in LaGrange. Wes was of the Christian Faith.

He was a veteran of the US Army, having proudly served in Vietnam and Verona, Italy.

Survivors include three daughters, Tina Tumey of Quincy, Debbie Douglas of Ironton, Ohio, and Ginger (Jeff) Huddleston of Cape Coral, Florida; two sons, Shawn Wesley (Pam) Ferrell of Vanceburg, and Ernie (Rett) Brooks of Bucyrus, Ohio; two sisters, Saundra Jordan of Garrison, and Elizabeth (Fred) Kline of Quincy; two brothers, Rick (Lacy) Ferrell of Portsmouth, Ohio, and John (Dea) Ferrell of Ironton, Ohio; 16 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Services were Sunday February 21, 2016, at Gaydos Funeral Home in Vanceburg, with Bro. Wes Cooper officiating.

Burial was in Cooper-Willis Cemetery at Garrison.

Pallbearers were Jeff Dummitt, George Haitz, Fred Kline, Jeff Thurman, John Gilliam, Greg Caudill and Johnny Everman.

Military Graveside Rites were accorded by Monte Lewis Stamm VFW Post 5438 of Vanceburg.
