Forty-one years after Alice Kidwell led her Lewis County Lady Lions to the regional tournament, she’ll be honored for her contributions and dedication to the Lewis County athletic program.
The recognition will come Friday, February 19, when the Lady Lions take to the floor in a game against the Lady Lions of Elliott County. It will be the final game on the regular season schedule.
(The recognition was planned for last year, 40 years after that historic season, but was cancelled because of the weather.)
Friday’s game will be played on the same floor at Lewis County High School where Kidwell rekindled girls basketball after a 33 year hiatus.
Alice and Gary Kidwell moved to Vanceburg in 1967 and began teaching in the fall of 1968. Before that the couple lived in Millersburg.
Gary grew up at Charters but Alice was an Ohio girl. They met at Morehead State University where they were both working toward teaching degrees.
