Apparent suicide claims Vanceburg man

Deputy Gary Sparks is investigating an apparent suicide that happened overnight Monday near the Ohio River at Black Oak.

Sparks said Larry Michael Goodwin Jr., 39, of East KY 8, Vanceburg, had been out on a four-wheeler Monday night and when he didn’t return home overnight family members began to search for him. Sparks said Goodwin’s body was located early Tuesday near the four-wheeler at the confluence of Sand Branch and the Ohio River.

Goodwin was pronounced dead at the scene by Lewis County Coroner Tony Gaydos of an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound. Sparks said a handgun was located at the scene.

Arrangements are incomplete at Dickerson Funeral Home in Vanceburg.
