Bessie Cooper, 88, of Vanceburg, passed away Tuesday, May 6, 2025, at Pioneer Trace Nursing Home in Flemingsburg.
Bessie was born in Rowan County October 22, 1936, a daughter of the late Levi and Mary Conley Sparks. She married Gene Cooper July 27, 1953, in Flemingsburg.
Bessie was a homemaker and enjoyed sewing. She was of the Christian faith and worked at US Shoe in Vanceburg for 31 years.
Left to cherish Bessie’s memories are her sister, Ellen Glover of Tollesboro; a brother-in-law Alford Cooper of Vanceburg; five grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 71 years, Gene Cooper, on February 4, 2025; her daughter, Genee Applegate; her son, Larry Cooper; six sisters, Carlotta Banks, Mattie Coldiron, Flossie Brown, Ruth Baldridge, Elizabeth Chaney, and Margaret Brooks; and four brothers, Jerry Sparks, Jack Sparks, Ora Lee Sparks, and JR Sparks.
Services will be at Noon Saturday, May 10, 2025, at Gaydos Funeral Home, 159 Second Street in Vanceburg, with Bro. Terry Cooper officiating. Burial will follow in McEldowney Cemetery.
Visitation will be after 10:00 a.m. Saturday, May 10, 2025, at Gaydos Funeral Home.
Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
