Betty Jean Rankins, 85, of Vanceburg, passed away Sunday, April 21, 2024, at Carter Nursing and Rehabilitation in Grayson after an extended illness.
Betty was born at Charters on May 16, 1938, a daughter of the late Earl and Zennia Thurman Arthur. She worked for US Shoe Corporation in Vanceburg for 32 years and was a self-employed housekeeper. She was a member of Flemingsburg Church of Christ since 2001. She loved quilting and gardening. For her leisure she liked to read.
Left to cherish Betty’s memories are two daughters, Sue (Eddie) Harris of Vanceburg and Karen (Tex) Roe of Grayson; one son, Terry Edward Rankins of Vanceburg; two sisters, Joyce (Jesse) Gibson of Maysville and Lynda Insley of Hamilton, Ohio; one brother, Jimmy Arthur of Germantown; six grandchildren, Kelly (Greg) Erwin and Beth (Christian) Arnold of Garrison, Tammie Kelly (Jason) Miracle of Salt Lick, Erica (Josh) Kegley and Jarod Rankins of Tollesboro, and Travis Crawford; and 11 great-grandchildren. Many other relatives and friends also survive who will mourn her passing.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Edward Rankins Jr. on November 10, 2001; a daughter, Shirley Fetters in 2003; three sisters, Debbie Grigson, Mabel Ruth Kegley, and Alice Howell; and two brothers, Howard Arthur and Joe Arthur.
Graveside services will be at Noon Wednesday, April 24, 2024, in Esham Cemetery at Petersville with Bro. Scottie Stears officiating.
