Bill Castle

William L. “Bill” Castle, 89, of Foxport, passed away peacefully with his family at his side Monday, February 27, 2023, at Maysville Nursing and Rehabilitation. He was the widower of Audrey Teegarden Castle.

Born in Fleming County on January 6, 1934, his parents were the late Estill Castle and Dora Mineer Castle.

Bill attended school in Fleming County. He proudly served his country in the United States Army, stationed in Okinawa, Japan. He was a Kentucky Colonel and well known Bluegrass music songwriter with numerous songs recorded by various artists. He was of the Christian faith.

Survivors include seven sons, Bill (Jennifer) Castle Jr. of Foxport, Tracy M. Castle of Maysville, James W. “Jay” Castle of Tollesboro, Damon Shane Castle of Tollesboro, Brian Neal Castle of Foxport, Jonathan Casey (Amy) Castle of Mt. Juliet, Tennessee, and Jarad Charles Castle of Maysville; three daughters, Kendra (Rusty) Yeager of Texas, Monda (Gail) Erskine of Tollesboro, and Lucinda “Cindy” Mae Castle of Owingsville; 11 grandchildren, Joshua (Lori) Castle, Melody (Chris) Evans, Bethany (Seth) Erskine, Keenan (Noelle) Yeager, Micah (Monica) Yeager, Nick (Kelsey) Castle, Brianna Castle, Chea Applegate, Elizabeth Hall, Jay (Cassie) Hall, and Jakob Castle; and 18 great-grandchildren. Bill is also survived by his extended Bluegrass music family as well as extended family members and friends.

In addition to his wife Audrey and his parents Estill and Dora, Bill was preceded in death by two of his children, David Shawn Castle and Brady Nicholas Castle.

Services will be at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, March 4, 2023, at Boone-Nickell Funeral Home in Flemingsburg with Bro. Greg Grimes officiating.

Bill will be laid to rest in Mineer Cemetery in Lewis County.

Military rites will be accorded by WN Fant American Legion Post 5 and Franklin Sousley VFW Post 1834.

Pallbearers include Josh Castle, Anson Castle, Nick Castle, Bobby King, Allen “Styx” Hicks, and Randy Brewer. Honorary pallbearers include Tracy Cassidy, Steve Watts, and Mark “Brink” Brinkman.

Visitation will be from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Friday, March 3, 2023, and after 7:00 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
