Billy Werline

Billy Werline

William Harry “Billy” Werline, 82, of Tollesboro, passed away Friday morning, October 4, 2019, at his home.

He was born August 9, 1937, in Lewis County, a son of the late William Jacob and Catherine Henderson Werline.

Billy proudly served his country in the United States Army and worked until his retirement for CSX Railroad. He would commonly be found joking around Tollesboro and entertaining others or bringing smiles to everyone at the oncologist clinic. His laugh was infectious! Billy had never met a stranger and was always willing to lend a hand. If he wasn’t at Ron’s, he could be found sitting on his back porch, drinking coffee, and watching his hummingbirds or riding in a car looking at the scenery on the backroads of Lewis County. Billy took pride in his history of building railroads, mowing his yard, his home cooking, and most of all, his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Billy is survived by his wife of 56 years, Linda Hord Werline; one son, Trent Werline (Denise) of Fleming County; three daughters, Tammie Brown (Ricky), Tina Applegate (Benny), all of Foxport, and Tracy Reese of Mt. Carmel; seven grandchildren, Tiffany Lawson, Trenton Applegate, Dustin Smith, Jacob Werline, Joshua Werline, Trista Reese and Tessa Reese; four great-grandchildren; and four sisters, Joyce Hampton, Wanda Sue Hughes, Jeannie Mustard, and Mary Etta Cooper, all of Tollesboro. He also leaves many other family members and friends who will sadly miss him.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Delbert Werline and Elmer Lee Werline, and one sister, Linda Porter.

Services will be at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, October 8, 2019, at Tollesboro Funeral Home and Cremation Services with Bro. Charles Hampton, Bro. Keith Sargent and Bro. Layne Wagner officiating. Burial will follow in Hillcrest Garden of Memories with full military honors accorded by Monte Lewis Stamm VFW Post 5438.

Friends may visit from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Monday, October 7, 2019, and after 9:00 a.m. Tuesday at Tollesboro Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 11918 KY 57 at Tollesboro.

Pallbearers will be Trent Werline, Ricky Brown, Benny Applegate, Trenton Applegate, Jacob Werline and Joshua Werline. Larry Mills, Donald Applegate, Steve Hampton and Jeff Reese will serve as honorary pallbearers.
