Bonnie Rae Stamm Howell, 90, of Bucyrus, Ohio, passed away Wednesday, February 7, 2024, peacefully at home surrounded by her family.
Bonnie was born July 23, 1933, a daughter of the late Claude Henry Stamm and Nellie Thurman Stamm. On August 11, 1956, Bonnie married her first-grade sweetheart, Gene Howell, and they enjoyed 66 years together until his death on March 22, 2023.Â
Bonnie received a teaching certificate from Morehead State University, and taught school at Covedale before moving to Ohio and teaching at Sulphur Springs. In addition to raising her family, she and Gene built and operated Foxfire Campground for many years. Bonnie enjoyed bowling, square dancing, sewing, traveling, and watching Kentucky Wildcats Basketball. She was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution and was a direct descendant of Colonel William Crawford. Bonnie was of the Christian faith and attended Wayside Chapel.
Bonnie is survived by her four sons, Stanlee B. Howell, Aaron K. (Sharon) Howell, Harold R. (Melanie) Howell, and Wesley C. Howell, all of Bucyrus. Numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren, extended family, and many friends also survive.
Along with Gene and her parents, she was proceeded in death by her brother, Ellsworth Stamm, and her grandson, Samuel W. Howell.
Visiting hours will be at Munz-Pirnstill Funeral Home in Bucyrus, Ohio, Sunday, February 11, from Noon until 2:00 p.m. and again at Dickerson Funeral Home in Vanceburg Monday, February 12, from 1:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m. with the service to follow.
Burial will be in Lewis County Memory Gardens at Black Oak.
The family suggests memorials to Wayside Chapel, 2341 Kerstetter Road, Bucyrus, OH, and Avita Hospice.
