Rev. Bruce Nelson Evans, 79, of Vanceburg, went home to be with the Lord, Saturday morning, March 11, 2017, at Hospice of Hope at Kenton Pointe in Maysville.

He was born March 29, 1937, in Lewis County, a son of the late Leo Sidney and Sidney Arvelva Conley Evans.

Nelson was a member of the Vanceburg Church of God and previously was the pastor of Saylor Branch Church at Laurel for 9½ years. He was retired from Browning Manufacturing in Maysville and loved going to church, visiting the nursing home where he was a chaplain, listening to gospel music on the radio, hunting, and spending time with his family and friends.

Nelson is survived by his wife of 57 years, Naomi Jane Cook Evans; one son, Keith Nelson Evans of Vanceburg; one daughter and son-in-law, Sherry and Mark Speakman of Willisburg; seven grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and four sisters and two brothers-in-law, Eileen and Junior Kennard, and Virgie Stone, all of Vanceburg, Kathleen Riffe of Garrison, and Regina and Larry Mustard of Concord. He also leaves many other family members and friends who will sadly miss him.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Donald Evans, Alvana Evans, and Charles Allen Evans; and four sisters, Alma Hill, Olive Elliott, and twin sisters, Laomi and Naomi Evans.

Services will be at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, March 14, 2017, at Dickerson Funeral Home in Vanceburg with Sister Dottie Stepp, Bro. Dannie Overton, and Bro. Eddie Stepp officiating. Burial will follow in Lewis County Memory Gardens at Black Oak.

Friends may visit from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Monday, March 13, 2017, and after 9:00 a.m. Tuesday at Dickerson Funeral Home, 110 West Second Street in Vanceburg.

Family members will serve as pallbearers.
