Carl George Crawford, 91, of Vanceburg, passed away Friday evening, May 13, 2016, at the residence of his niece.
He was born June 9, 1924, in Lewis County, a son of the late Rowland Thomas and Lena Dummitt Crawford.
Carl was a member of Thackers Chapel and proudly served his country in the US Navy. He also worked as a principal in the Palm Beach County School System and loved going to church and playing golf.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 61 years, Wilma Reed Crawford; six brothers, Ralph Crawford, Ray Crawford, Herbert Crawford, William Crawford, Harlan Crawford, and Jack Crawford; and six sisters, Gladys Summerfield, Blanche Rose, Edith Stricklett, and three infant sisters.
Carl is survived by numerous nieces and nephews. He also leaves many other family members and friends who will sadly miss him.
Services will be at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, May 17, 2016, at Thackers Chapel in Vanceburg, with Bro. Roy Lands officiating. Burial will follow in South Florida National Cemetery in Lakeworth, Florida, on Monday, May 23, 2016.
Friends may visit from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Monday, May 16, 2016, at Dickerson Funeral Home, 110 West Second Street in Vanceburg and after 10:00 a.m. Tuesday at the church.
Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
