Carl McKinley Shope, 82, of Nevada, Ohio, passed away Friday, December 23, 2022, in Columbus, Ohio.
Carl was born at Vanceburg on July 12, 1940, a son of the late Charlie and Zady Gladys (Dyer) Shope. He married Christine Rittenberry on November 2, 1961.
Carl moved to Bucyrus in the late 1950s and worked for Mullins as a general laborer; Bucyrus Ice as a delivery driver; The Dairy; Besel Trucking; and started his own trucking company called Shope & Sons. Carl loved to ride motorcycles and take long trips for a cup of coffee. His two dogs, Stink and Grace, were always with him. If Carl wasn’t with his family in Ohio, he was on Rock Run with his Kentucky family or enjoying the Turkey Run. Uncle Carly will be missed by everyone.
Survivors include his children, Rhonda (Ron) Spiegel of Nevada, Ohio, and Harold Shope; his siblings, Bo (Evelyn) Shope and Earl (Mona) Shope of Bucyrus, Ohio, Pete (Drema) Shope, Geri (Bob) Grayson, Clyde (Dee) Shope, Reda Hauck (Bim Thurman), and Mary Nolen of Kentucky, William (Nita) Shope of Montana, Donald Shope of Lucasville, Ohio, and Deb (John) Pyles of Oklahoma; and his grandchildren, Jason Shope of Bucyrus, Ohio, Tosha Spiegel of Nevada, Ohio, Christine Anderson of Tennessee, and Darrell “Buzz” Shope of Kentucky; six great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
In addition to his parents, Carl was preceded in death by his wife, Christine; a son, Darrell; a great-grandson, Daniel; three brothers, Freddie, Charles, and Davey; and two sisters, Melvie Lohr and Rosa Evans.
Services will be at 6:00 p.m. Thursday, December 29, 2022, at Munz-Pirnstill Funeral Home, 215 North Walnut Street in Bucyrus, Ohio, with Carl Angel officiating. The family will receive friends after 3:00 p.m. at the funeral home.Â
