Carolyn Ruth

Carolyn Lou Brooks Ruth, 81, of Batavia, Ohio, formerly of South Portsmouth, passed away Tuesday, May 6, 2025, at home surrounded by family.

Carolyn was born October 25, 1943, in Stout, Ohio, a daughter of the late Trula Flinders Brooks and Lorin Brooks.

Carolyn was a retired registered nurse with Southern Ohio Medical Center. She was an active member of the Parish Nursing Program working to promote health and well being with the First Christian Church in South Shore. While a nurse at SOMC, she led a program to reduce children’s fear during hospital visits by giving each child a teddy bear. She was a member of First Christian Church of South Shore and attended Glen Este Church of Christ in Batavia, Ohio.

Left behind to cherish her memory are three daughters, Lisa (Greg) Pass of Independence, Lori (Dean) Schultz of Batavia, Ohio, and Krista Jull of Mills River, North Carolina; one sister, Emma Jane Flinders of Mt. Sterling; one brother, Richard Brooks of Maysville; seven grandchildren, Ashley Miller (Tyler), Caleb Pass (Heather), Bailey Schultz, Daren Wallace, Abby Brooks (Josh), Anwyn Reese (Jackie), and Ellie Jull; and four great-grandchildren, Emmy Miller, Genevieve Pass, Leo Miller and Griffin Pass.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Lamar Ruth; her twin sister, Marilyn Sue Armstrong; and sister, Lorna Kay Sapp.

Services will be at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, May 10, 2025, at Morton-Hunt Family Funeral Home in South Shore with Brett Unger officiating. Burial will follow in Lewis County Memory Gardens at Black Oak. 

Visitation for family and friends will be after 11:00 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to South Shore First Christian Church.
