Carolyn Stafford Swearingen born October 18, 1925 in Wayne West Virginia. Went home to be with the Lord June 4, 2016.
Carolyn was born in Wayne, West Virginia, on October 18, 1925, to the late John and Maude Middleton Stafford. She grew up in Sandy Hook and moved to Lewis County in March 1951. She met the love of her life, Jack Lucas Swearingen, in Lewis County three years later and they were married March 24, 1962.
She was retired from US Shoe in Vanceburg.
She gave birth to one daughter, Melanie Dawn Swearingen Polley, to whom she devoted her life, on December 20, 1967.
She loved being outside working in the garden and with her flowers. She loved cooking, canning, and sewing. She was a member of Clarksburg Christian Church and dearly loved her church family.
In addition to her parents, Carolyn was predeceased by three brothers, Ernest Stafford, Charles Stafford, and John Stafford; three sisters, Martha Blankenship, Elizabeth McCoy, and Dollie McCreer; four sisters-in-law, Bessie Stafford, Mary Swearingen, Janie Swearingen, and Debbie Swearingen; and five brothers in-law, Brick Swearingen, Dudley Swearingen, Creighton Swearingen, Tom Swearingen, and Vernon Cooper.
Survivors include her loving husband of 54 years, Jack Lucas Swearingen; her daughter, Melanie Dawn (Russell) Polley; a brother, James Lee Stafford; an adopted grandson, Christopher David (Ashley) Burns; three sisters-in-Law, Carrie (Melvin) Smoot, Gypsy Cooper, and Jessie Lykins; and two brothers-in-law, Bruce Swearingen and Archie Swearingen.
Services will be at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, June 7, 2016, at Gaydos Funeral Home in Vanceburg with Bro. Rob Ford officiating. Burial will be in Lewis County Memory Gardens at Black Oak.
Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Tuesday and from 8:00 a.m. until the hour of services Wednesday at the funeral home.
Pallbearers will be Paul Swearingen, Chuck Swearingen, Tony Swearingen, David Burns, Perry Polley, and Matt Polley
