Darrel “Catbird” Edington, 83, of Camp Dix, passed away Monday, February 17, 2025, at his home. He was surrounded by his loving family.
He was born in Lewis County on January 19, 1942, a son of the late Oval C. and Marie Bloomfield Edington.
Catbird was a member of Blankenship Christian Holiness Church and proudly served his country in the United States Army. He enjoyed trading, hunting, fishing, traveling, and spending time his family and friends, especially his lovely wife.
Catbird is survived by his loving wife of 34 years, Betty Blevins Edington; three daughters, Mindy Edington of Ohio, and Denise (Ray) Evans and Lorie (Marc) Adams of Camp Dix; two sons, Victor (Melanie) Christy of Vanceburg and Matthew (Jackie) Christy of Missouri; one brother, Donald Dean (Bonnie) Edington of Morehead; and several grandchildren. Many other family members and friends also survive who will sadly miss him.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Robin Reed; a son, Darrel A. Edington Jr.; and a sister, Janetta Ash.
Services will be at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, February 23, 2025, at Globe Family Funeral Chapel, 7975 Lower Kinney Road at Camp Dix, with Bro. Jerry Bloomfield and Bro. Chris Lawhun officiating. Burial will follow in Liles Cemetery at Camp Dix.
Friends may visit after 1:00 p.m. Sunday, February 23, 2025, at Globe Family Funeral Chapel at Camp Dix.
Pallbearers will be Adam Christy, Corey Christy, Lucas Adam, Gabe Adams, Nathan Reed, and Sam Edington.
Honorary pallbearers will be Corkey Fannin, Jay Mathis, Harlan Rickett, Marc Adams, and Bo Carver.
Military graveside rites will be accorded by Monte Lewis Stamm VFW Post 5438.
