Cecil Iery

Cecil Dean Iery, 80, went to be with the Lord on December 18, 2023, surrounded by his family at Mountain Home VA Hospital in Johnson City, Tennessee.

Dean was born on June 8, 1943, at Carrs. He served in the United States Army starting in 1963 and was honorably discharged in 1968 attaining the rank of Sergeant First Class. Sergeant Iery received multiple commendations including several Soldier of the Month awards, the Army Commendation Medal, as well as serving in Vietnam, Germany, and several posts throughout the United States. After his service, Dean came home and was an over-the-road truck driver for more than 30 years, which reflected his love of trucks as a young boy. He received recognition for driving over 1,000,000 miles safely. Dean was a member of Dutch Bottoms Baptist Church.

Survivors include his loving wife of 49 years Glenda (Strange) Iery; sons Chris (Angela) Iery, Shawn Iery, and Chuck (Kaycee) Cody; sisters Verlyn Doles, Patricia McClurg, and Rhonda Iery; brother Larry Iery; in-laws Wayne and Helen Williams, and Zella Cody; grandchildren, Jayden, Taylor, Alora, Emily, Hannah, Luke Iery, and Chipper Cody; and three great-grandchildren. Several nieces and nephews also survive.

He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Louanna (Walker) Iery; brothers, Bill, Timmy, and Jerry Iery; sister, Barbara Moore; and his in-laws, Charlie and Lorene Strange.

Services were Thursday, December 21, 2023, at Manes Funeral Home Chapel at Newport, Tennessee, with Rev. Glen Ball officiating.

Burial was in Union Cemetery.
