Charles Alfred Thompson, 79, of Portsmouth, Ohio, formerly of Ashland and Vanceburg, passed away Friday, February 28, 2025, at Hillview Retirement Center in Portsmouth, Ohio.
He was born May 18, 1945, in Ashland, a son of the late Clyde Charles and Frances Alene Thompson.
Charles was a 1963 graduate of Paul G. Blazer High School in Ashland; served 19 years combined service in the Army and Air Force Reserves; 201st Engineer, Army National Guard, Ashland, 907th Civil Engineers Rickenbacker Air Force Base, Columbus, Ohio; a lifetime member of the American Veterans-Jesse Stewart Post #95, Greenup; member of the American Legion-Clarence Fields Post #76, Ashland; Member of the Loyal Order of Moose-Lodge #892, Ashland; Member Fraternal Order of Eagles-Aerie #2329, Ashland; Commissioned a KY Colonel in 1980; and was retired from Ashland Works of Armco/AK Steel Corp, a 43-year employee in the maintenance department assigned to the Blast Furnace Unit.
Survivors include his loving wife of 42 years, Judy Kaye Hester Thompson, and two sisters, Sandra Kay Henry of Flatwoods and Brenda Joan Thompson of Lexington. Many other family members and friends also survive who will sadly miss him.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Meredith M. And Verna Boggs Thompson; maternal grandparents, Alfred Junior and Pearl Bryan Densmore; and his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Douglas H. And Erdena Wills Hester.
Graveside services will be at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, March 5, 2025, ion Lewis County Memory Gardens at Black Oak with Bro. Wes Cooper officiating.
Graveside Military Rites will be accorded by Monte Lewis Stamm VFW Post 5438.
