Chester Carter

Chester J. Carter, 62, of Vanceburg, passed away unexpectedly Sunday, June 23, 2024, at Meadowview Regional Medical Center in Maysville.

Chester was born in Lexington on August 18, 1961, a son of the late Chester G. and Lydia Beatrice Zornes Carter. He was a self-employed carpenter for over 30 years and worked for various companies in the surrounding area. Chester was a veteran of the United States Army in which he so proudly served.

Survivors include his wife of 40 years, Rita Jewell Carter, whom he married in Vanceburg; three daughters, Aleisha (Anthony) Carpenter, Kristy Carter, and Sherry Carter and her fiancé, Richard Holmes; a son, Chester G. Carter II; two sisters, Dolores Brown and Flora (Glen) Flinders; one brother, Sam (Joyce) Carter; and four grandchildren, Alex Carpenter, Zavier Holmes, Abby Carpenter, and Paige Holmes. Many other relatives and friends also survive who will mourn his passing.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his oldest brother, Garland David Carter.

Services will be at 11:00 a.m. Friday, June 28, 2024, at Gaydos Funeral Home, 159 Second Street in Vanceburg, with Bro. Danny Blankenship officiating. Burial will follow in Carter Family Cemetery in Greenup County.

Visitation will be after 9:00 a.m. Friday, June 28, 2024, at Gaydos Funeral Home.

Pallbearers will be Anthony Carpenter, Aaron Carpenter, Rick Holmes, Chester Flinders, Jeff Mofford, David Carter, Mark Helgerson, Eugene Calder, and Logan Calder. Honorary pallbearer will be Aleisha Carpenter.
