Chester Elbert “Chetty” Thayer Jr., 75, of Garrison passed away Friday, June 15, 2018, at CAMC Memorial Hospital in Charleston, West Virginia.
He was born September 19, 1942, in Pennsylvania, a son of the late Chester and Daisy Bivens Thayer.
Chetty proudly served his country in the United States Army and was a lifelong farmer. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, horses, being outdoors, and spending time with his family and friends, especially with his grandchildren.
Chetty is survived by his wife, Lynda Jo Frye, the loving mother of his children; two sons, Chester Thayer III and Sherman D. Thayer, both of Garrison; two daughters, Melissa Jane Blake and Allison Lee Horsley, both of Garrison; 13 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and three brothers, Jarrell Dean Thayer of Valrico, Florida, Gail “Peanut” Thayer and Wayne Thayer, both of Garrison. He also leaves many other family members and friends who will sadly miss him.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one grandson, Michael Allen Thayer.
Services will be at 11:00 a.m. Friday, June 22, 2018, at Globe Family Funeral Chapel in Garrison, with Bro. Ben Collier officiating. Burial will follow in Bivens Cemetery at Quincy with full military honors accorded by Monte Lewis Stamm VFW Post 5438.
Friends may visit from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Thursday, June 21, 2018, and after 9:00 a.m. Friday at Globe Family Funeral Chapel, 103 Dudley Avenue at Garrison.
Pallbearers will be Roger Thayer, Brian Thayer, Dalton Horsley, Keyan Blake, Larry Veach, Loren Huffman, and Cody Henson.
