With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Christopher Wayne Bates of Charlestown, Indiana, who departed this life on May 3, 2025, in Lewis County at the age of 48.
Born on December 2, 1976, in Salem, Indiana, Chris was a man of unwavering character, deep compassion, and selfless devotion. To know him was to be embraced by his kindness and his genuine willingness to do anything for anyone in need.
He was a dedicated employee of Best One Tires of Kentuckiana for over 20 years, and was currently the manager for the OTR side of the business. He truly loved his job and the people he worked with. He made many friends throughout his career.
Chris was a devoted husband, a proud father, a cherished grandfather, and a beloved uncle. For 24 beautiful years, he shared his life with his wife, Cassandra Schonard-Bates; his son, Christopher Bates (Maria); and his bonus daughter, Amber Gatewood; grandchildren, Augusta, Oliver, Jacob, Ava, Memphis, and Magnolia; his sister, Chasity Engle; and his nephews, D’Artagnan and Ethan. He was preceded in death by his brother, Colby Bates.
Known for his big heart and dependable spirit, Chris left an impression on every life he touched. Whether offering a helping hand or sharing a hearty laugh, his presence made people feel seen, valued, and loved. He will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by all who had the honor of knowing him.
Though he has left this world, the legacy of Christopher Wayne Bates — his love, his laughter, and his loyal heart — will live on in those he leaves behind.
Services will be at Noon Friday, May 9, 2025, at Scott Funeral Home, 2515 Veterans Parkway in Jeffersonville, Indiana.
Visitation will be Thursday from 3:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. and after 10:00 a.m. Friday at the funeral home.
