Cova Pearl Hilger Maddox, 86, of Laurel Creek Road, Vanceburg, passed away Sunday morning, July 31, 2016, at her home.

She was born December 12, 1929, in Carter County, a daughter of the late William Hilger and Mae McGlone Eulett.

Cova was of the Church of Christ faith and loved reading, sewing, gardening, bonding with her animals, traveling, the Democratic party, and especially spending time with her family.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, Shannon “Jock” Maddox; and one daughter, Betty Jane Sloan.

Cova is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Jerry and Nancy Scott of Indianapolis, Indiana, and Thomas and Karen Maddox of Hendersonville, Tennessee; one daughter and two sons-in-law, Rhonda and Clyde Logan of Vanceburg, and Randy Sloan of Indianapolis; eight grandchildren, James Logan, Mike Logan, Ginger Boling, Tonya Scott, Angela McGuffey, John Maddox, Nash Maddox, and Matt Sloan; and nine great-grandchildren. She also leaves many other family members and friends who will sadly miss her.

Services will be  at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, August 4, 2016, at Globe Family Funeral Chapel it Camp Dix  with Bro. David Vaughan officiating. Burial will follow in Morgan Cemetery at Head of Grassy.

Friends may visit from 6:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. Wednesday, August 3, 2016, and until the service hour on Thursday at Globe Family Funeral Chapel, 7975 Lower Kinney Road at Camp Dix.

Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
