Delano “Dwight” Cotton, 82, of Flower Mound, Texas, formerly of Tar Fork Road in Lewis County passed away Thursday evening, June 1, 2017, at his Texas home.

He was born April 20, 1935, in Navarre, Ohio, a son of the late Leonard Ellsworth and Rosa Cotton.

Dwight was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He served in the US Navy aboard the USS Nereus. He received his bachelor’s degree from Brigham Young University and later earned a master’s degree from Morehead State University with the help of his sweetheart, Naomi. Together, they traveled coast to coast in their motorhome and enjoyed adventures on motorcycles, boats, and dune buggies.

Dwight is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Dwight Jr. and Shirley Cotton of Lancaster, and Douglas and Linda Cotton of Flower Mound, Texas; seven grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and one sister, Marcella Jarrett of Blythe, California. He also leaves many other family members and friends who will sadly mourn Uncle Dwight/Big Dwight.

In addition to his parents, Dwight was preceded in death by his wife of 52 years, Naomi Ruth Hamilton Cotton; one brother, Leonard G. Cotton; and four sisters, Gladys Lorean Cotton, Naomi Ruth Cotton, Juanita Shonkwiler, and Florence Fannin.

Services will be at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, June 10, 2017, at Globe Family Funeral Chapel at Camp Dix. Burial will follow in Hamilton-Mawk Cemetery on Tar Fork Road.

Friends may visit from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. Saturday, June 10, 2017, at Globe Family Funeral Chapel, 7975 Lower Kinney Road at Camp Dix.

Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
