Donald Applegate, 82, of Vanceburg, passed away peacefully Sunday morning, September 22, 2024, at Vanceburg Hills Nursing Home after an extended illness.
Donald was born in Bracken County on October 1, 1941, a son of the late Fred and Mary Boling Applegate. He worked for General Motors in Detroit, Michigan, for 15 years. He enjoyed tinkering with his cars, loved playing with his grandchildren, and being with his family.
Left to cherish Donald’s memories are his wife of 47 years, Linda Sexton Applegate, whom he married May 17, 1977; two daughters, Mandie (Chad) Sizemore of Vanceburg and Angie (Larry) Speckner of Tampa, Florida; two sons, Jason Applegate (Sarah Gibson) of Lexington and Josh Applegate (and fiancée Angela Brock) of Flemingsburg; a sister, Ilene Bailey of Irvine; two brothers, Robert Applegate of Tollesboro and Stanley (Kellie) Applegate of Sharonville, Ohio; and three grandchildren, Lexie Sizemore, Ethan Sizemore, and Jaxon Sizemore.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Donnie Applegate; five sisters, Judy Sweet, Gladys Fredrick, Bessie Myers, Frannie Brooks, and Delores Hick; and six brothers, Cecil, Tom, Fred Allen, Ronnie, Harold Lloyd, and Kenny Applegate.
Services will be at 1:00 p.m. Friday, September 27, 2024, at Gaydos Funeral Home, 159 Second Street in Vanceburg, with Bro. Wes Cooper officiating.
Visitation will be after 11:00 a.m. Friday, September 27, 2024, at Gaydos Funeral Home.
