Alan Duane Stone, 69, of Vanceburg, went home to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Tuesday, June 6, 2023, after an extended illness. He was surrounded by his loving family.
Duane was born in Lewis County on July 20, 1953, a son of Virgie Evans Stone of Vanceburg and the late Denny Stone.
An active member of Union Baptist Church in Petersville, Duane was a very quiet, kind, and loving soul, and he loved Jesus with all his heart. He loved spending time with his family, especially his many grandkids and great-grandkids.
Duane was a hard worker. At the age of 16, he started working at a gas station with his Uncle Floyd Ruckel. He spent 13 years working for US Shoe in Vanceburg and Flemingsburg. Duane finished out his working years at Wald LLC in Maysville, retiring after 29 years. Following his retirement, Duane wanted to stay busy so he started mowing yards for residents of Lewis and Mason Counties.
In addition to his mother, survivors include his loving wife of 47 years, Patty Thurman Stone; one daughter, Melinda (Mathew) Kirby of Alexandria; three sons, Daniel (Sherri) Stone of Vanceburg, William (Vallary) Stone of Garrison, and David (Taron) Stone of Vanceburg; 14 grandchildren, Kaitlan, Noah, Isaiah, Gabrielle, Emily, Mckayln, Jacob, Billiejo, Autumn, Savannah, Isiack, Brady, Shawn, and Lincoln; and three great-grandchildren, Cayde, Connor, and Weston; and two brothers, Lanny (Marilyn) Stone and Darrell (Chastity) Stone of Vanceburg.
In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by one brother, Gregory Stone; grandparents William Jay and Margaret (Teets) Stone; and Leo and Velva (Conley) Evans.
Services will be at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, June 10, 2023, at Dickerson Funeral Home, 110 West Second Street in Vanceburg, with Bro. Bradley Stone, Bro. Richard Thurman, Bro. Jason Thurman Jr., and Bro. Joe Watson officiating. Burial will follow in Blankenship Cemetery at Camp Dix.
Friends may visit from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Friday, June 9, 2023, and after 9:00 a.m. Saturday, June 10, 2023, at Dickerson Funeral Home.
Pallbearers will be Daniel Stone, Bill Stone, David Stone, Matthew Kirby, Dale Stone, and Jackie Stone.
Honorary pallbearers will be Noah Kirby, Isaiah Stone, Jacob Goodwin, Isiack Gnn, Brady Ginn, Shawn Stone, Lincoln Stone, and Matthew Bell.
