Elizabeth Gretchen “Liz” Rayburn, 84, of Tollesboro, was born on June 27, 1932, and went home to meet her Lord and Savior Monday, October 31, 2016.
She was born in Lewis County, a daughter of the late Emery and Hester Rigdon Shaw.
She married Robert Rayburn in 1956 and they shared their life together for 60 years.
She was a loving mother to two daughters, Debbie (Kirby) Roberts and Kim (Mike) Hesler; a grandmother to Heather (John) Dowdy and Cory (Xianghua) Thomas; and a great-grandmother to Presley and Cole Dowdy, and Qian Ye “Lilly”.
She was preceded in death by her two brothers, Eugene Shaw and Thomas Shaw; and her sister, Anna Ruth Shaw.
Liz was a homemaker, who enjoyed cooking and shopping for her family, and family gatherings. She enjoyed watching and feeding her birds, especially the cardinals. She was a devoted member of Hickory Grove Christian Holiness Church where she always served her Christian family. She loved helping with the sick shut-ins.
Services will be at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, November 5, 2016, at Hickory Grove Christian Holiness Church with Pastor Charles Emmons officiating. Burial will be in Mount Tabor Cemetery. Visitation will be at the church from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Friday.
