Elwood Butler, 83 of Bucyrus, Ohio, went to be with the Lord on Monday, May 23, 2016, at his home. He had been ill for the past three weeks. Elwood was born April 8, 1933, at Fitch to the late David and Daisy (Bloomfield) Butler. He was married January 30, 1954, to Bessie (Thomas) Butler who survives. They were married 62 years.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son Charles Edward Butler; grandson, Matthew Allan Bloomfield; three brothers, Glenwood Butler, Moses Butler, and James Butler; and three sisters Pauline Liles, Louise Wilburn, and Mae Butler.
In addition to his wife, Elwood is survived by a son, Virgil (Ruth) Butler of Bucyrus; two daughters, Rita (Dick) Middleton Jr. of Bucyrus, and Anita (Harold) Bloomfield of Nevada, Ohio; seven grandchildren, Trina (Jim) Collene, Kristy (Shawn) West, Jonathan (Loretta Slone) Butler, Mike (Jennifer) Middleton, Mark (Jeanette) Middleton, Shawn (Amy) Bloomfield, and Jeremy Bloomfield; 23 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Chester Butler of Bucyrus and Walter (Julie) Butler of Camp Dix; and four sisters, Celia Armstrong and Ada Griffitt both of Vanceburg, Janet Reed of Kingman, Arizona, and Nancy (Charles) Rickett of Lucasville,Ohio.
Elwood retired from Glen Gery Brick Company in 2000 and was a member of Freewill Baptist Church.
Services will be at 1:00 p.m. Friday, May 27, at Freewill Baptist Church with Rev. Lyle Arnett, Rev. Lewis Copley, and Rev. Chris Stewart officiating. Burial will follow in Oakwood Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at Munz-Pirnstill Funeral Home in Bucyrus from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Thursday, May 26, and at the church from 11:00 a.m. until the hour of services Friday.
