Erma Kansas Meadows Boggs Howard, 88, of Garrison, went to be with the Lord on Easter Sunday, April 9, 2023, following complications from a stroke. She was surrounded by loved ones.
She was born a twin on February 21, 1935, one of 10 children, to Everett and Orpha Meadows on Shultz Creek at South Shore.
After becoming a widow with two small boys at a young age, she fell in love with and married Wayne who had two boys of his own. Together they had their daughter, Rhonda. Erma viewed all the children as her own and was a wonderfully kind and attentive mother to all her children. She was a member of Wright’s Chapel and The Little Country Church. She dedicated her life to Christ April 2, 2000.
Erma was full of energy and had a sunny disposition and a contagious laugh. She never shied away from hard work and was happy to accomplish any task, big or small. On a sunny day if she wasn’t on the porch waving at passersby, she could often be found on her zero-turn mower keeping her yard beautiful. For the past 52 years, she’s lived on their Montgomery Road Farm. She was employed at US Shoe, Williams Shoe, and worked their tobacco and cattle farm where she raised a big garden, canning much of its harvest.
She enjoyed going to church and dearly loved celebrating Christmas with her family, finding great pleasure in shopping year-round for gifts for all her family.
Survivors include her loving husband of nearly 52 years, Wayne Howard; three sons, Michael (Traci) Howard of Spring Hill, Tennessee, Jeffery (Pam) Boggs of Garrison, and Robert (Tana) Boggs of Lucasville, Ohio; one daughter, Rhonda (Thomas) Massie of Garrison; a daughter-in-law, Patty Howard of Garrison; her grandchildren, whom she cherished, Jason Boggs, Derrick Boggs, Elizabeth (Collie) Crawford, Cody Howard, Mason Massie, Justin (Katelyn) Massie, Sarah (Carter) Moore, Bridget Howard, Tabitha Boggs, Mason Howard, and one great-grandson, Norman Crawford.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Homer Boggs; a son, Phillip Howard; and her siblings, Louis Meadows, Wayne Meadows, William Meadows, Hurston Meadows, Kathryn Jordan, Wilma Lyons, Herman Meadows, Dessie Holt and Essie Meadows.
Services will be at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, April 12, 2023, at Globe Family Funeral Chapel, 103 Dudley Avenue at Garrison, with Bro. Larry Joe Madden and Bro. Clarence Hall officiating. Burial will follow in Logan Cemetery on Zion Ridge in Greenup County.
Friends may visit from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Tuesday, April 11, 2023, and after 9:00 a.m. Wednesday, April 12, at Globe Family Funeral Chapel at Garrison.
