Fred Thomas

Freddie Lee Thomas, 77, of Mooresville, Indiana, passed away Thursday, December 8, 2022.

Fred was born March 21, 1945, at Tollesboro, a son of the late Adrian and Mildred (Hord) Thomas. He married his beloved wife, Kay, in 1990, and she survives.

Fred graduated from Tollesboro High School and Morehead State University. After a brief stint as a physical education teacher, he embarked on a successful career in insurance sales that spanned 46 years. He was with National Life and American General many of those years. He was a regular attendee of Grace Church for many years and more recently attended Mt. Gilead Church.

Fred was an avid University of Kentucky basketball fan. As a younger man, he was an accomplished basketball and baseball player. The competitiveness did not stop with sports. He loved to play euchre, if he was winning. Fred, along with his son Mark, rebuilt many older Jeeps. He also enjoyed rebuilding John Deere tractors. When it was time to relax, many family memories were created on camping trips. Fred will be fondly remembered for his great sense of humor, strong will, and love for his family. He simply adored his grandchildren who were lucky to have a Papaw as devoted as Fred.

Survivors include his wife of 32 years, Kay; his children, Kelly (Amy) Thomas, Tracy (Mike) Johnson, Mark (Julie) Thomas, Lora (David) Shumate, Melissa Langston, and Brian Stultz; a sister, Wanda Jane Ginn; 12 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, December 14, 2022, at Carlisle – Branson Funeral Service and Crematory at Mooresville, Indiana.

Additional visitation will be Friday, December 16, 2022, from 9:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. at Tollesboro Funeral Home and Cremation Services at Tollesboro. Burial will be in Mt. Carmel Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to the Little Red Door Cancer Agency, www.LittleRedDoor.org.
