Gardner “Gus” Lewis

Gardner “Gus” Lewis, 84, of Mansfield, Ohio, passed away Monday, August 29, 2016, at his home surrounded by his loving family.

He was born to Calvin and Dorothy (Thomas) Lewis on December 3, 1931, in Vanceburg.

Gardner grew up in Vanceburg and attended Lewis County High School.  He went to serve in the US Army during the Korean Conflict from 1949-1953. Gardner traveled to Mansfield seeking employment and found work at Westinghouse and Empire Detroit Steel. He loved woodworking, gardening, and hunting.  Gardner’s wife and family were his life. He was married to the love of his life, Mona, for 59 years. Gardner was a member of Venus Masonic Lodge 152 in Mansfield.

Gardner is survived by his loving wife, Mona (Stone) Lewis; two sons, Barry (Sally) Lewis, and Michael (Gina) Lewis; grandchildren, Megan Lewis, Rhiannon (Adam Greter, fiancé) Lewis, Cody Lewis, and Wesley Lewis; and several nieces and nephews. 

Gardner was preceded in death by his parents; and sister and brother-in-law, Doris and Gene Burton.

Visitation will be Thursday, September 1, 2016, from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the Ontario Home of Wappner Funeral Directors, 100 S. Lexington Springmill Road, Ontario, Ohio. 

A Masonic service will be at 8:00 pm. Thursday. 

Services, officiated by Rev. Clifford Earl Tackett, will be Friday, September 2, 2016, at 1:00 p.m., also at the Ontario Home. Burial will follow at Mansfield Memorial Park with military honors accorded by Richland County Joint Veterans Squad and the US Army Honor Detail.
