Gary Wayne Curtis, 80, of Vanceburg, passed away Sunday, September 7, 2025, at his home.
He was born August 3, 1945, at Petersville, a son of the late James Franklin Curtis and Irene Lykins Curtis.
From an early age, Gary worked with his father at the family store, Curtis General Merchandise, prior to beginning a lifelong career in construction. He honorably served his country in the United States Army while stationed in Germany.
Gary loved watching all sports, particularly UK basketball. He enjoyed golfing, playing cards, spending time with his grandchildren and family, as well as keeping the tires warm with daily trips to McDonald’s for his sacred coffee.
Survivors include his wife of 51 years, Judy Love Curtis; one daughter, Lesley (Josh) Cramer of Columbus, Ohio; one son, Drew (Maggie) Curtis of Cincinnati, Ohio; one sister, Linda (Phil) Kennedy of Vanceburg; two grandchildren, Annaleigh Curtis and Gunnar Curtis; nieces, Laira Kate Kennedy and Colleen Kennedy of Vanceburg; and nephews, Joe Kennedy and Mike (Kristy) Kennedy of Vanceburg.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Sharon Curtis, and a grandson, Parker Cramer.
Visitation will be Wednesday, September 10, 2025, from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Gaydos Funeral Home, 159 Second Street in Vanceburg.
Services will be Thursday, September 11, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at Gaydos Funeral Home with Bro. Clayton G. Lykins officiating. Entombment will follow in Lewis County Memory Gardens at Black Oak.
Pallbearers will be Joe Kennedy, Mike Kennedy, Josh Cramer, Bobby Yates, Drew Curtis, and Mike Ginn. Honorary pallbearer will be Gunnar Curtis.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Lewis County Family Resource & Service Center, 86 Walter Street, Vanceburg, KY 41179.
