Gary Paul Hafer, 71, of Tollesboro, passed away Sunday, February 14, 2021, at Saint Joseph Hospital in Lexington.
He was born May 15, 1949, in Brown County, Ohio, a son of the late Carlos Earl and Pauline Cooper Hafer.
He was of the Christian faith, a retired police officer in Chilhowie, Virginia, after 33 years of service. Gary enjoyed fishing, piddling in his garage and spending time with his children and grandchildren.
Gary is survived by his wife of 14 years, Barbara Horsley Hafer; four sons, Paul Bryan Grierson of Carlisle, Anthony Dane Grierson of Orangeburg, Gary Paul Hafer Jr. of Marion, Virginia, and Andrew Harrison Hafer of Marion, South Carolina; six daughters, Sandra Nolen of San Antonio, Texas, Amanda Cole of Boone, North Carolina, Kayla Dawn Adams and Tia Rochelle Adams of Hillsboro, McKensie Riopell of Auburn, Maine, and Megan Stitt of Marion, South Carolina; a half-brother, Carlos Hafer of Huston, Texas; and a half-sister, Jo Hafer Conley of Hurley, Mississippi. He also leaves many other family members and friends who will sadly miss him.
Gary was preceded in death by one brother, Ronnie Wilson; two sisters, Toyna Carner and Joyce McCoy; and one grandson, GP Hafer III.
Services will be at 1:00 p.m. Friday, February 19, 2021, at Tollesboro Funeral Home and Cremation Services with Sister Yuvette Chapman officiating. Interment will follow in Hillcrest Garden of Memories in Mason County.
Friends may visit from Noon until 1:00 p.m. Friday, February 19, 2021, at Tollesboro Funeral Home and Cremation Services.
Pallbearers will be Anthony Dane Grierson, Paul Bryan Grierson, Gary Hafer Jr., Ryan Riopell, Paul Edward Cole, Kyle Grierson, Andrew Hafer, and Keith Grierson.
Honorary pallbearers will be Scott Sexton, Ronnie Terry, Tony Richardson, Chip Marshall, Dewayne Sheffield, and Rob Keene.
