Gaye McCann

Estill Gaye McCann, 71, of Vanceburg, passed away Sunday, March 3, 2024, at his home. He was surrounded by his loving family.

Gaye was born April 28, 1952, in Lewis County, a son of the late Grover and Gladys Pollitt McCann.

He proudly served his country in the United States Army and later served as a deputy sheriff for nine years. He was a lifelong farmer and enjoyed raising tobacco for many years and anything to do with cattle.

Gaye was a true man of God and had a love for the Lord like no other. He had a heart of pure gold and a smile that could light up a room. He was always willing to help others, no matter the need and never met a stranger or someone he didn’t welcome with open arms. His love for his family and friends, especially his wife, children, and grandchildren couldn’t be matched. Words cannot express how deeply he will be missed.

Survivors include his loving wife of 47 years, Bonnie Blankenship McCann; two daughters, Sabrina (Scott) Osman of Blue Creek, Ohio, and Kendra (David) Chappelow of Vanceburg; one son, Chad (April) McCann of Vanceburg; six sisters, Carolyn (David) Scott of Seaman, Ohio, Bonita (James ) Applegate of Flemingsburg, Kathy (Bill) Williams of Olive Hill, Lula Mae Ash and Vickie (Denny) Beckett of Larue, Ohio, and Delma “Debbie” Stone of Gibraltar, Michigan; four brothers, Wendell (Arlene) McCann of Maysville, Tom (Janice) McCann of Vanceburg, Phil (Karen) McCann of Marion, Ohio, and Howard (Barbara) McCann of Dayton, Ohio; seven grandchildren, Shayla Osman, Stephanie Osman (Drew Cluxton), Jacob McCann, Peyton Gum, Austin Grayson, Levi (Madison) Chappelow, and Mattison (Austin) Walters; and three great-grandchildren, Mason Mercer, Kanton Chappelow, and Piper Walters. Many other family members and friends also survive who will sadly miss him.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four brothers, Harold Edward McCann, Harry Jack McCann, Kenneth “Toots” McCann, and Robert “Bob” McCann.

Services will be at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, March 9, 2024, at Dickerson Funeral Home, 110 West Second Street in Vanceburg, with Bro. Bob McCann officiating. Burial will follow in Lewis County Memory Gardens at Black Oak.

Friends may visit after 6:00 p.m. Friday, March 8, 2024, and after 9:00 a.m. Saturday, March 9, 2024, at Dickerson Funeral Home.

Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
