Gene Cooper

Gene A. Cooper, 91, of Vanceburg, passed away Tuesday, February 4, 2025, at Hospice of Hope at Kenton Pointe in Maysville. 

He was born at Stricklett on January 1, 1934, a son of the late Plez and Eva Young Cooper.  

Gene was a farmer and owned and operated his own sawmill. He also repaired small engines in his spare time and was of the Christian faith.

Left to cherish Gene’s memories are his wife of 71 years, Bessie Sparks Cooper, whom he married July 27, 1953 in Flemingsburg; a brother, Alford Cooper of Vanceburg; five grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Genee Applegate; a son, Larry Cooper; two sisters, Thelma King and Doris Linville; and three brothers, Wilford Cooper, Cecil Cooper, and Douglas Cooper.

Services will be at Noon Friday, February 7, 2025, at Gaydos Funeral Home, 159 Second Street in Vanceburg, with Bro. Terry Cooper officiating. Burial will follow in McEldowney Cemetery.

Visitation will be after 10:00 a.m. Friday at Gaydos Funeral Home.

Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
